Digital Art Agency - Why is art consultancy important?

At Sugar Glider Digital we offer consultancy and project management to create bespoke art projects for our clients. Our experience as art curators over the past 10 years has refined the way we consult and produce truly valuable art projects.

As an agency we specialise in end-to-end capability but we have the ability to add value at any stage of your project. Our expertise covers Art Strategy, Public Art, Art Activations and Corporate Collections. Through our sister brand Art Pharmacy we provide high quality outcomes with a tried and tested process that allows for buy-in at every stage.

Our typical process involves 4 stages:

1. Site Analysis and Strategy Development

2. Artist Procurement

3. Design Development

4. Implementation and Maintenance

Throughout these we devise a strategy and create an art narrative to dictate a clear path towards achieving your brand goals.

What is an art strategy and why is it important?

An art strategy is a plan of action designed to achieve the objectives of our clients and clearly stipulates where and how art is used and implemented. Strategies mitigate risks for our clients and artists and show how art can have the highest impact.

An art strategy will outline:

  • Art Placements - Where are the opportunities for art to be located

  • Art Typographies - What kind of art could feature - mural, sculpture, installation

  • Art Integration - How does art integrate with the community, wellness and client values

Infrared Ambience - Billy Ryan ‘Babekuhl’

A surreal, meditative and personal portrait of the natural world surrounding experimental cinematographer, Billy Ryan’s, birthplace on Australia’s east coast. Through the use of full spectrum camera technology, Ryan aims to explore the unseen - depicting the coastal landscape and adjacent bushland through wavelengths which are invisible to the human eye. This technology-enhanced perspective is hypnotic and alluring, an environment that feels both intensely hype-real and instantly familiar.

Artwork commissioned for Dexus, 80 Collins Street, Melbourne

What is an art narrative?

An art narrative forms the grounding of the curatorial direction or theme for the public artwork. It is site specific and informs the decision making around art, activates, and aids a consistent place identity while addressing and incorporating the relevant community and context appropriately.

A narrative provides cues to the audience about their sense of belonging in the space, providing an overlay to a place that is rich in meaning and provides opportunities for community engagement and participation. It is what the artist will use as the basis to develop their concepts and be a motif that flows through the procurement of the art, from the beginning phase, to fabrication and installation.

We always consider First Nations artists for all our projects. While the narrative is there for guidance we always encourage First Nations artists to not be restricted by this and to uncover their own version of the narrative or story of place and aid in this development.

Art Pharmacy have produced impactful public and private art projects over the past 10 years and have seen a growth in demand for digital art. Digital art projects offer flexible, dynamic and engaging art solutions for clients.
